The mission of the Church (is) to build a community of faith around the Word of God and the Eucharist... we must take care of each other. - Cardinal Seán O'Malley
Our Campaign Priorities
To ensure that Catholic education is available to all children requires an increasing investment and why it is at the forefront of the Cardinal’s Inspiring Hope campaign.
For Catholic Charities to continue to provide and further expand its meaningful and beneficial services to the poorest members of our society with justice and compassion.
In this increasingly secularized world, the need for vibrant liturgies, pastoral care and outreach, and parish-based evangelization is more important than ever.
Our ability to inspire and educate holy, healthy, intelligent men for ordination to the priesthood is paramount to growing our faith.
The interior restoration of the Cathedral of the Holy Cross is a cornerstone of Inspiring Hope to ensure this monument to our faith remains a living expression of God’s love and a safe worship space for all.
Leadership and Vision
Back in 2003, when Cardinal Seán O’Malley was installed as Archbishop, our Archdiocese was confronted with many challenges. There was the clergy abuse scandal, parish and school closings, the clergy and lay pension fund was underfunded, the health care system was saddled with debt, demographics were changing rapidly, with a decrease in Mass attendance and vocations, and the Archdiocese itself verged on the edge of bankruptcy.
As a pastor in the Franciscan tradition and a priest who had long served the poor and immigrant communities of Washington, D.C. and other locales, Cardinal Seán came to Boston uniquely equipped to face these challenges confronting our Archdiocese and help lead us forward.
